This is a website about learning differences. It would be a poor one if it were hard to use.

Our commitment

Blossom, Learn & Grow Tutoring and Advocacy, LLC works with dyslexic students and their families every day. Reading is difficult for the people this site is for, and several of them use screen readers, text-to-speech, high-contrast modes or keyboard-only navigation. Making this site work for them is not a compliance exercise for us, it is the point.

The standard we aim for

This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the level referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act guidance and by California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, and it is the level we hold ourselves to.

We believe the site substantially conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We say “substantially” rather than “fully” because no honest site claims perfection, and because we keep finding things.

How we test

The site is checked with automated tooling on a schedule, using an axe-core accessibility audit plus a keyboard-only walkthrough of every page, and reviewed by hand when something is flagged. That combination catches more than either does alone: automated tools find contrast and structure problems reliably, and a person is needed to tell whether a page actually makes sense in the order a screen reader reads it.

What that testing has changed

In the interest of being specific rather than reassuring, here is what the most recent round of testing found and what we did about it:

  • Ten pieces of text failed the 4.5:1 contrast minimum, including the gold statistics on the home page and the small rose-colored labels above section headings. We added darker variants of both brand colors and now use those wherever the color is text.
  • The gold button in the site header was being repainted a lighter gray by a competing style rule, dropping it to 3.5:1. That rule is fixed.
  • The footer headings jumped from a second-level heading to a fourth-level one, which reads as a missing section to a screen reader. They are now in order.
  • Every image carries alternative text, every form field has a visible label tied to it, and the whole site can be operated with a keyboard alone.

Known limitations

We are not aware of an outstanding barrier on this site today. Two things are worth naming anyway. First, the contact form uses a spam check; if it ever gets in your way, please call instead and we will take your details over the phone. Second, some documents families share with us during advocacy work are scanned PDFs produced by school districts, and we cannot control how those are made. Ask us and we will read one to you or retype it into an accessible format.

If something on this site blocks you, tell us

This is the part that matters most. If any page here is hard or impossible for you to use, we want to know, and we will fix it rather than explain it away. There is no form to fill in.

Tell us the page and what happened, as plainly as you like. We aim to reply within two business days. If a fix will take longer than that, we will get you the information you were after another way in the meantime, by phone, by email, or however suits you.
